Honors Program

Honors Program

No matter what area of study you choose, the Drake University Honors Program offers you the chance to make it even more interesting—and challenging.

The program features discussion-based interdisciplinary courses, each with no more than 20 students. These classes are reading- and writing-intensive, helping you strengthen the intellectual abilities essential to success in any field.

Honors Program Courses

Honors Program courses span a wide variety of interests and topics, as these recent examples show:

  • Haunted Futures
  • Staging the Machine
  • The Press, Program, and the Pill
  • DOGS: Ethics and Politics of Canines
  • Digital Religion
  • Sustainable Development in Uganda

The Honors Program Community

The Honors Program is more than just a curriculum. As a member of the program, you are part of a special community that fosters a dynamic, supportive, and social environment. Through the Honors Student Council, you and your classmates have the chance to be involved in all levels of the program, from shaping the curriculum to community outreach.

Earning University Honors

To earn an official “University Honors” designation on your diploma, you must meet three requirements: complete the Honors Program track, maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA, and complete an Honors Senior Thesis capstone project.

Applying to the Program

If you are a motivated student looking for a challenging and rewarding experience, we encourage you to apply. To do so, please download and complete the Honors Program Application. This is due in early March for priority consideration, although we will consider later applicants if space is available.

The enthusiastic students, faculty, and staff of the Honors Program will be happy to meet with you when you are on campus for a visit. Let the Office of Admission know if you would like to schedule an appointment with an Honors Program representative.

If you have questions about the Honors Program, please contact the program staff at honors.program@bianlifan.com or 515-271-2999.
